The Devil's Ridge
This dive takes place on the huge ridge that, starting from the Sciara del Fuoco, stretches offshore for a hundred metres in the northern part of the island. The entire structure rests on a steep and muddy sea bed which from -45 metres of depth under the wall of the Sciara drops to -80 metres of depth in the outermost part of the ridge and then sinks into the abyss. From an underwater plain at -45 metres of depth, on the outermost part of the ridge, two shoals separated by a few tens of metres rise; the innermost, at -35 metres of depth, reveals the damages incurred as a result of the events at the turn of the year 2002/2003; the outer one, at -25 metres of depth, is the goal of the dive.
The scene that occurs has a primordial beauty: on the slopes of the volcano, surrounded by the entire chromatic scale of greys, by an endless blue and by the abyss. You can see golden groupers in their candle mode awaiting intrigued, while all around you can find pentagon sea stars, Ascidians, small dark green seaweeds, yellow sea fans, groups of Anthias and bluefishes. From the deep blue sea, you can see amberjacks, seabreams, big dentixes and you may also meet tunas and sharks.
